How To Adopt
The adoption process for PNHS is quite simple. We require that you be a member of PNHS for at least one month.
After that time you are free to adopt our animals. However part of the adoption process is an application that
requires you to show knowledge in how to care for the particular animal you are interested in. So prior to
adopting make sure you do your homework!
After you have successfully proved that you know what you are doing, you pay the adoption fee which ranges from
$10 to $40 depending on the animal.
The animal does not have to be taken home at that time. People often make arrangements to pick animals up later in the week
from the animals host family, or they pick the animal up at the next meeting. Either is acceptable.
Once you have adopted the animal, there are some strings attached. PNHS still retains legal ownership over the
animal for upto a year. This helps us protect the animal from new families that may not be ready to handle it.
During that year, you are required to bring the animal in about every 3 - 6 months so that we can be witness to
the animals health. If this is a burden, arrangements can be made to come to you. Essentially we need to know
that the animal is being treated correctly.
Wait not a member? But you still REALLY want that one animal we have? Just join! It's only a few dollars a year!
No? Ok... well in certain circumstances we do adopt animals to non-members. This is purely a situation-by-situation
deal. The adoption chairperson will contact you and discuss the option in length with you. But let us warn you,
you better have a darn good reason not to join the society!
